Silicon Carbide Grip Treatment

Silicon carbide abrasive material is an angular black material used in grinding wheels, slurry mixes and refractories for grinding applications. Its hardness surpasses that of garnet and aluminum oxide materials while remaining softer than diamond grit.

Silicon carbide grip treatments offer a lasting solution to increase skin-to-frame friction. Simply paint epoxy on areas you wish to texture before pouring your chosen grit of silicon carbide over it.

It’s a Permanent Solution

Silicon carbide provides the only permanent way of increasing friction on gun grips, offering aggressive and lasting texture that won’t wear away over time. Other methods, like stippling or grip tape can be effective methods, but these solutions wear off with use or become slippery when wet – neither offer lasting solutions! Silicon carbide gives you a truly aggressive texture that lasts.

Black silicon carbide grit (Carborundum) is the hardest blasting media available and its hard, blocky angular grain shape enables shorter blasting times than soft medias such as silica grit. You can repurpose this blasting media many times over, much like rock tumblers do, as it breaks down and exposes new sharp edges as well as creating an optimal blend of particle sizes that makes surface cleaning/polishing much more effective than with any other blast media.

Brekke Custom offers various levels of texturing to meet the aggressiveness you require for your ride. Silicon carbide is applied after an epoxy layer is laid down for optimal results; for optimal 120-grit texture results we apply silicon carbide directly onto the frame – similar in appearance and feel to 120 grit sandpaper, but more mild in its approach and suitable in most circumstances.

It’s Durable

Silicon carbide is an extremely hard material, second only to diamond in Mohs scale hardness ratings. Additionally, it is durable and heat resistant making it the perfect material for cutting and grinding applications as it is less brittle than steel blades which may crack under excessive force.

Silicon carbide’s exceptional hardness lends it an unrivalled stock removal and material shaping efficiency when utilized as sandpaper, while also accommodating for different materials like wood, metal, composites and more.

Black silicon carbide (commonly referred to as Corundum) is a hard, angular abrasive that offers the benefit of repeated use. As its material degrades, new sharp edges surface that make this media immensely effective at surface cleaning and polishing.

It’s Easy to Apply

Silicon carbide is a reliable method for increasing friction, unlike solutions such as stippling or skateboard tape (both still popular among competitors), which only require slow-cure JB weld, 60gr black silicon carbide rock tumbler media and small detail brushes to get going.

After applying epoxy on the areas to be textured, simply sprinkle silicon carbide over that. This process should take only minutes and be straightforward.

Epoxy will permanently adhere to the frame, creating a firm texture. Next, cut a sharp border around it so it appears as though the frame were applied factory style.

At our grip treatments, our standard offering is 80 grit silicon carbide; however, less aggressive textures can also be made available upon request. This treatment is particularly useful for concealed carry firearm owners looking to strengthen grip strength when wearing tactical gloves; its hardness rating of 9.1 on Mohs’ scale only surpasses diamond and boron carbide.

It’s Affordable

As a competitive shooter, adding grip texture to your gun is of vital importance. Increased friction between your hands and the pistol frame will improve performance and decrease shooter fatigue. While grip tape and stippling are popular solutions, they can often prove costly or peel over time; for more sustainable options check out silicon carbide grip treatment instead.

Grip Carbide is applied to your pistol grip using a high-performance two part epoxy. Once hard, we buff away rough areas for a more polished appearance, leaving high abrasion areas like beavertail untextured as desired. Plus, there’s no risk of it interfering with any firearm warranties!

Black silicon carbide (commonly referred to as “Carborundum”) is an extremely hard and angular abrasive material with a Mohs scale rating of 9.1. It’s harder than garnet and aluminum oxide but much more friable than brown fused alumina – making it perfect for grinding nonferrous materials, sandpapering, sandblasting, vitrified resinoid grinding wheels, lapping compounds polishing rock tumbling etc.
